August 2013 - Patient registry links New Brunswickers to family physicians

FREDERICTON (GNB) – Eight-hundred New Brunswickers have been matched with a family physician or nurse practitioner through Patient Connect NB.

"At the end of May, our government established Patient Connect NB, which is a well-managed, bilingual resource for New Brunswickers without a primary health-care provider," said Health Minister Hugh Flemming. "So far, 2,000 new patients have signed up for the service; 800 have been matched with family doctors and nurse practitioners; and nearly 300 more are being assigned. It is encouraging that we are seeing these positive results after just two months of the registry being in operation."

Patient Connect NB, managed by Tele-Care, has replaced all of the province's no-physician lists. New patients wishing to be added to the registry may register online or by calling Tele-Care (811). Those who were on no-physician lists were added to the patient registry and have maintained their priority.

"One of the cornerstones of a healthy population is access to primary health-care services," said Flemming. "Patient Connect NB is improving access to family doctors and nurse practitioners in our province. In A Primary Health Care Framework for New Brunswick, the provincial government committed itself to establishing this registry, and I am pleased that we were able to put this service in place for New Brunswickers."

More information about Patient Connect NB is online.
