Sykes Assistance Services Corporation is collaborating with Lawson Research of the University of Western Ontario and Gateway Research Health Research Institute to study the impacts of patient self monitoring of vital signs to improve health outcomes.   

Sykes Assistance Services is contributing its capabilities to provide 24/7 monitoring and decision support and has partnered with Healthanywhere, Bell Canada, and Research in Motion to provide the monitoring technology, software and data plans to support the project. 

A group of individuals from rural communities near Seaforth Ontario who are considered at risk for Diabetes are participating in the study to identify the success of self-measurement through the use of remote monitoring technologies on their ability to manage their health outcomes.  Sykes Assistance Services is providing case management, technology, and ongoing monitoring of the group’s measurements.   

Participants have been provided BlackBerry devices, blood pressure monitors, blood glucose meters, and pedometers to provide daily measures.  The measures are transmitted to Sykes’ Case Managers real time so that follow up action can be taken as required.
